HIGHER EDUCATION
The majority of our students (approx. 80% each year) carry on to Higher Education after their two years in the Sixth Form. They apply to a wide range of Universities from Aberdeen to Plymouth and plenty in between and study an even wider range of courses from Architecture to African Studies. There is a great deal of support and help for students during both Years 12 and 13 to advise them on possible courses of study and how to put together a strong University application.
In Year 12 the process is as follows: October |
Introductory sessions covering different types of Universities and degree courses available and how the points system works. |
February |
Talk from the University of Chichester about Student Life and the application process. We are part of the Sussex Liaison Accord which means that Universities in Sussex guarantees our students an offer for the majority of courses. |
March |
Visit to the Higher Education Convention, Portsmouth. This event is attended by 90% of the country’s Universities and is an excellent opportunity to collect prospectuses and find out more about particular courses. |
June |
Sessions about registering on the UCAS Apply website and using
UNITRACKER, a personal statement website to which we subscribe. |
July |
Higher Education Information Evening for parents of Year 12 students, who
wish to find out more about the application process and financial implications. |
During the summer break students will receive their AS results and will be able to think realistically about which Universities they wish to apply for and which subject area they want to study.
In Year 13 the following timescales apply:
September |
Application system opens. Students will be completing their application forms, having one to one meetings with their form tutors to finalise their references and putting finishing touches to their personal statements. |
October |
15th October is the deadline for applications to Medicine, Dentistry and all courses at Oxford and Cambridge. (Note that only 4 out of your 5 choices can be for medicine/dentistry and you are not able to apply to both Oxford and Cambridge) |
Nov-Dec |
Students finishing off applications if the above deadline not applicable.
All applications to be sent off before the Christmas break. |
January |
15th January is the deadline for all applications. |
Feb-March |
Students apply for Student Finance (Tuition Fee loan etc.) |
April-May |
Students make their 2 choices from 5, one firm choice and one insurance choice. Any students not holding any offers can apply for courses in Extra during this time. |
August |
Results are published and Universities confirm places. Any unsuccessful students are automatically eligible for clearing. |
